For geeks who like making things

MegaMaker is for geeks who ❤️ making things. We help developers, designers, and product people:

  • Make better stuff on the web.
  • Earn a better living from what they make.

For some folks, “earning a better living” will mean bootstrapping a product business, but for others, it might mean building a side-project that earns $2k / year and helps them take their family to Disneyland.

Basically, we’re web workers who want more than a regular 9-5.

Independent work doesn’t have to mean doing it alone.

How it started

Our history

In 2012, Kyle Fox and I started an interview podcast called Product People. We chatted with developers, designers, and founders about the process of making digital products. Folks like Jason Fried, Nathan Barry, and Adam Wathan.

Then, in 2013, I created this community for makers. I discovered many indie web creators had similar struggles: isolation, motivation, getting good feedback, and launching products.

Today, MegaMaker is home to makers from all over the world.

We share our progress weekly, get feedback on our projects, and help each other when we launch something new.

Who are our members?

Software developers, designers, product managers, and marketing managers. It’s for anyone who’s building and launching products. Some folks have launched full-time SaaS businesses, while others have built fun side projects. Everyone is welcome!

It’s working: I’m extremely proud of what members have accomplished. Our alumni list includes Ryan Hoover (who started Product Hunt), William Channer (who started Panda), Espree Dvora (who started LA Tech), and Robert Williams (who credits the club as the birthplace of Folyo):

“Having people you can ask questions to is extremely valuable. The club was literally the birthplace for my service, Folyo. They helped me start it a year ago and continue to help me improve it today.”

How membership works

One membership. Lifetime access.

Other membership sites charge monthly or annually. MegaMaker’s membership model is a one-time payment for lifetime access to our Slack.* We’ve been around since 2013 and have no plans to stop now!

* “Lifetime access” refers to the lifetime of the site, not your individual lifetime. That being said, we’ve been going since 2013 and have no plans of quitting. Questions? Email me: words@megamaker.co
